Sounds like a holiday you didn't plan on and I am glad you are all safe. We never really know what situation we will find ourselves in. We need to learn to roll with the punches. I think we get better at it with age when we come to realize the most important things in our lives are not those with a monetary value.

Thank you for sharing this experience with us. Your description really makes me able to imagine the sights and sounds. It must have been very strange to be there when something so awful was happening and also the exciting family trip that you had envisioned.

Thanks for your comments, Beth. It's always nice to hear from you! That week was such a surreal experience. In so many ways, it was what we had planned and hoped for, but in one big way, it was not. It's been hard to reconcile the two opposite sides of one coin in my brain. Writing about it has helped, but it will always remain a very bittersweet memory.
